The future of this blog

I've been going over the past posts on this blog. There are a lot of rambling posts about work, and I worry that anyone reading it will be bored to tears trying to find something interesting in it. I won't delete these posts, but my advice is to look through the posts for anything with searchable keywords.

If I become a writer this blog, and my backup blog on Wordpress, will be the main conduit between me and the public. It will be important to keep it a lot more professional sounding.

My dad's new prayer

Now he just says The Lord's Prayer. I've never heard him say it before a few weeks ago. I'm guessing it was the first prayer he learned as a child.

Nanowrimo as come and gone...

...and I didn't write a damn thing.

America on the highway to hell

When I was first old enough to vote it was 1980. Virtually every canidate was a veteran. In 1992 we elected our first draft dodger. He won even though he ran against a war hero. In 1996 we Republicans put up another veteran, another war hero in fact, but the draft dodger won again. So, in 2000 we Republicans put up a draft dodger of our own, and he won. There was no turning back.

In 2004 the Democrats put up a veteran and our draft dodger won reelection. In 2008 the Democrats one-upped us and elected someone who only had two years experience in politics. So in 2016 we Republicans put up someone with exactly zero years experience.

I don't expect things to get better, but I can see some unlikely things that could make them worse. Say we elected a president who had mob connections. Or we select someone with even more serious crimes in his background than the Clintons had. There are many things that are worse than what we've done.

Nanowrimo

This is Preptober, the month before Nanowrimo. I'll explain.

Nanowrimo means National Novel Writing Month, and would be writer's like myself are supposed to write 1500 words each day. We're supposed to have a 45,000 word rough draft by the end of the month. Preptober is the month when we get ready by outlining it, and I don't have anything planned. I might "pants" it, which means writing by the seat of your pants. I always do this when I write a short story, but I've never written anything as long as a novel.

Antifa

"In Italy, the fascists divide themselves into two camps: the fascists and the antifascists." Ennio Faianno said that. To that I would add that here in America there is only one camp.

There are actually some Nazis, but they don't have any credibility in any media outlets. Antifa does. During the Berkeley protests against Milo Yanopolis the police were ordered to stand back and let the protesters get away with everything. They were attacking people from behind and committing real, very serious injuries.

Where were the actual Nazis? No one that got attacked was one.

Good poetry vs. pop music

Some people want to be poets but aren't good enough to be published. They work regular day jobs and write poems all their lives, but never sell anything to the poetry press. I have a suggestion for them: write song lyrics instead.

Song lyrics aren't held to the same high standard to which poems are held. What's more, song lyrics can make tonnes more money than poems. If just one of these songs becomes a big hit, the lyricist will rake in more money off that one song than a good poet will make in a lifetime of writing superior poems.

Interesting video

https://youtu.be/5FXD7h8PGH0
Dr. Jordan Petersen comments about collectivists vs individualists. This sort of parallels the video about Sargon of akaad where he describes authoritarian vs libertarian.

Work

We were informed we were all getting laid off. We'll go till September, then they will close the branch. There are a lot of people here that have been with the company for many years and I know what they have to do when they finally get the axe. They are going to have to find another job for menial wages, because Utah is not a Union state. Blue collar workers cannot take their experience with them like white collar workers can, unless they are in a Union.

I need to do a union oriented post. For the record I am pro union, pro environment, and have  few other sort of left leaning beliefs, but I'm mostly libertarian conservative.

Text from my brother

I sent, "I just thought of the ultimate spinal tap tribute band name. Love Tap with the umlaut over the V."

He sent, "Who hurt you man??"
