still looking for a job

I have a job working for the census bureau. It's a temp job, but I've made contact with other people who are just as hard up for cash as me, so I guess it's a plus.

Still looking forthat elusive job driving a fork lift.

Networking Meeting

Just got out of a networking meeting. It was full of white collar workers -- bleah! They were all upbeat, sharing tips and stuff. The good feeling I had as I left lasted as long as it took to get to the other unemployment place I always go to.

I actually had two tips for the group. The infrmal group I network with on Tuesdays had a couple of people in it that I got in touch with some of the people in the Thursday group. Seems to me these networking groups are just for sharing phone numbers. These people could use a copy of the white collar pages.

job interview

Today I had a job interview. It was for a job that only pays 9.50 or 10 dollars per hour and it is part time, maybe 15 or 20 hours. It made me appreciate the jobs that only pay 8.50 per hour but have 30+ hours per week.

There are a lot of white collar suggestions made in the church's job search program. I don't think they really apply to blue collar jobs like the ones I apply for. There are plenty of people interviewing that would disagree, though. It seems that every time I do an actual interview it is for a white collar job. Someone needs to get all these people together and tell them to stop using buzzwords like the characters in Dilbert comics.

After the interview I went to the temple. I stayed in the Celestial room for about half an hour praying. I didn't get a specific answer to anything I prayed for, but I felt better afterward. My bishop suggested I go once a week. As long as there are several temples within a few miles of home it should be easy.

Name Change

I decided to change the name of this blog. It used to be "yet another poetry blog." I haven't written any poetry since my stroke back in May, '09. The poems I wrote before that were pretty bad, too!

untitled

I'm still looking for a job in the Salt Lake area. It can be quite discouraging. For anyone reading this, I am an experienced forklift driver and custodian. I don't like the current trend in job applications that require you to start over every time you get a new job. It isn't fair that an employer would get to take advantage of the fact that you have years of experience but they are only willing to pay you beginner's wages. For what it's worth, I have 8 years experience as a custodian and 9 years experience as a warehouseman.
