Raises Again

Some time ago we all got raises again. Level twos get $18/hour now. My job is still satalites, so sometimes I drive and sometimes I don't. Last summer was the best time I've had at work, doing satalite 2 driving every day.

raises all around

We were raised to $15 per hour a little while ago, and they just announced new raises to $17.50 for entry level and $18 for level 2. I am a level 2 with driving and customs access. Right now I'm sitting in B concourse after driving the truck here, and waiting for one of the supervisors to drive me back to the terminal.

They are trying to keep custodians from quitting. They are having lots of trouble keeping people here. Now that the pandemic is largely over a lot of people are quitting work everywhere.

just thought of a good story

I have a hymnal app on my phone. When I select a hymn there is a little applet that appears at the top of the screen that will play a recording of that hymn. It's a small choir, maybe only four people, maybe eight, with a small group of musicians accompanying them. A different hymn is selected each day and recommended for me to listen to.

I got this idea while listening to a hymn one day. A small church decides to produce a hymnal app, and gets members of the community to sing and play on these recordings. A couple that broke up is included in the choir and quickly becomes the focus of the story. They sing a few hymns every few days in their off hours. Every time they get together to play and sing they go through some argument about their past against the backdrop of the hymns they are practicing that week.

Year of viruses III

Ten viral infections in a row. I know it's not all in one year, more like a year and a half. I wonder if they had any thing to do with the mask wearing.

new phone

I recently got a new phone, and of course I waited at least a month before posting about it.

My old phone was a LG D520, a slider, and i got it 8 or 9 years ago. It still had the original battery, though it was starting to bulge. The protective layer of plastic they put on screens had fallen off a few years ago. The keys on the keyboard still worked. I find it easier to hit the correct keys on a small true keyboard than on a much larger virtual keyboard.

This new one is a LG Stylo 6. I like it, but I notice that when I sit down with nothing to do and pull out my phone, its to watch youtube. It used to be that I would fire up Drive and edit a document. The difference was that the old phone didn't have good reception, but it did have a keyboard.

I'm thinking of getting a really old style flip phone, one you can't even download apps for, where you have to type the same number key three times to get a 'c' or a 'f', and a little Bluetooth keyboard for it, and a large 9 or 10 inch tablet with a keyboard for home.

This was written on my new Stylo.

Year of viruses II

Right now I have another viral infection. It might be because my brother David has been coughing constantly. It's not covid-19 because I had that a few weeks ago.

This is the ninth virus in one year. The seventh was covid.

Thankful for co-workers

I've forgotten to post more about Thanksgiving on this blog, so I will just keep it going until I have 7 entries.

I'm grateful for almost all my co-workers over the years. They have made my low paying jobs worth it.
